Two tips for sciatic nerve pain treatment

Sciatic Nerve Pain Treatment

Burning sensations and pain are never a good sign, but these may be exactly what you’re feeling in your lower back, buttocks and legs if you have sciatica. There are several treatment options that can help treat sciatic nerve pain. However, there are two tips in particular that you should try because they can help reduce your pain.

1.   Take a rest

One tip you may want to use for sciatic nerve pain treatment is to take a rest from your normal workout routine. Many people are workout fanatics who like to push themselves every day, but this can be tough on your body. One issue that working out too hard can cause is inflammation, and inflammation in the lower back can cause the sciatic nerve to become pinched.

Pinching of your sciatic nerve can set off a cascade of symptoms such as pain, burning sensations and tingling in the legs. To fight back against these symptoms, you should consider taking a break from your normal workout routine. Take a few days to just rest and let your body recover. This can give inflammation time to go down, which can relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve and reduce your pain.

2.   Stretch the piriformis

Another issue that may be causing your sciatica is a tight piriformis muscle, so stretching this muscle is a good option for sciatic nerve pain treatment. The piriformis muscle is pear-shaped under the gluteus maximus, and it runs from the base of your spine to the top of the thigh. This muscle is involved in rotating the hip to turn the leg and foot outward.

Tightness of the piriformis muscle can cause it to rub against the nearby sciatic nerve, and this can lead to the sciatica symptoms you’re experiencing. When the muscle is stretched, it returns to its normal position, and this means it stops irritating the sciatic nerve and can help reduce sciatica symptoms.
