Don’t you hate it when your head hurts? A throbbing headache can make it difficult to concentrate or move around. There are many kinds of headaches and most of them are nothing too serious. They tend to go away after a little rest and some light home treatments.
Our physical therapists at Armor Physical Therapy do not want you to suffer from headache pain. That’s why we’ve put together this list of four home remedies you can use to help treat a headache.
1. Hydrate
Not drinking enough water is one of the leading causes of common headaches. Dehydration can cause the blood vessels in your body to narrow. This makes it difficult for oxygen to travel through your blood and to your brain, which creates a headache.
Drink more water to help rehydrate your system and treat your headache. This may also help prevent future headaches.
2. Drink some coffee
The caffeine in coffee can help reduce the symptoms of a headache. You have to be careful with coffee though. If you drink too much too often, you can suffer a headache from withdrawals. That can put you right back where you started.
Avoid espresso beverages that are made with a lot of sugar. A small cup of black coffee will do. You may want to try caffeine pills instead if you don’t like coffee.
3. Correct your posture
The way you sit and stand can put a lot of pressure on your spine. This can cause pain in your back and neck that radiates into your head. A stressed spine puts pressure on the nerves running through it, which can lead to a headache.
Sit and stand with your back straight, your head up and your shoulders even with your chest. This should help reduce pressure from your muscles and spine that may be causing headaches.
4. Sleep well
Not getting enough sleep has been connected with frequent headaches. The same goes for oversleeping too. The key is to get just the right amount of sleep your body needs. This is typically about 7 to 9 hours.
