At Armor PT in Schoolcraft, we greet each of our patients with a caring and highly-trained staff equipped to treat whatever discomfort they may be feeling. Hands-on therapy

At Armor PT in Schoolcraft, we provide some of the best services in Southwest Michigan. Our specialties include orthopedic and sports PT, manual therapy, post-operative rehab, overuse injury treatment, neuromuscular re-training, TRX assisted rehab, McKenzie treatment, dry needling, osteopathic manual therapy, women’s health, and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM).

We also provide specific services for sports performance, such as gait evaluation, lactate threshold testing, sports performance training, biomechanical evaluations, triathlon training, shoe and orthotic recommendations, and healthy spine treatments. Our staff also offers specific programs for athletic achievement, such as our Golf Performance Academy, Just for Kids!, S2 P.E.A.K Training, and Performing Arts & Dance.

What we treat

We provide treatment for several parts of the body, including back pain, sciatica, shoulder pain, elbow/wrist/hand pain, pelvic pain, neck pain, headaches, hip and knee pain, foot and ankle pain, and neurological conditions. We also provide treatment for certain injuries, ailments, and conditions, such as sports injuries, work injuries, motor vehicle injuries, balance and gait dysfunction, arthritis, TMJ, fibromyalgia, torticollis, and women’s health conditions. Additionally, we offer specific rehabilitation and recovery programs, such as pre-surgical rehab, post-surgical rehab, vestibular rehab, and work hardening.

Our staff

Our clinical staff has advanced training in many different areas to handle even the most complicated of musculoskeletal injuries. We have the only Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy in the Southwest Michigan Area and Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics on our staff. Our staff is comprised of leading PT experts, passionate about helping each and every patient reach their individual goals. Scott Miller is a physical therapist and a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist. A native to the area, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1994 and a Master of Science in 1998 from Grand Valley State University. Scott is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and a Certified Golf Fitness Instructor through the Titleist Performance Institute. He started with Rehab Professionals in 1999 and served as the Sports Medicine Manager/Clinic Director of GRSportsCenter, in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2006, he resigned his position to form a partnership with Agility Health Inc. (formerly Rehab Professionals). In 2007, with his Agility Health partner, Scott opened Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in Portage, Michigan. With his team growing, the Kalamazoo location was opened in 2010 and the Mattawan location was opened in 2015. Scott is currently the Regional Director of Clinical Operations of Armor Physical Therapy (formerly Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance) for the Portage, Kalamazoo and Mattawan locations.

Scott has been published in several orthopedic textbooks and lectures at the local, regional and national levels on various topics in physical therapy. He has continued to pursue advanced education and training in foot & ankle biomechanics, manual therapy and the McKenzie method for evaluation and treatment of spinal disorders.

Scott is an active member in the American Physical Therapy Association, Sports Physical Therapy Section, and a former Board of Trustee member and secretary for the Institute of Education and Research of the Michigan Physical Therapy Association. He currently is a member of the Western Michigan University DPT Program Clinical Advisory Panel, as well as a member of the Knee, Shoulder and Running Special Interest Groups (SIG) of the Sports Physical Therapy Section. Scott is part of the teaching faculty for Advances in Clinical Education and the North American Sports Medicine Institute. In 2014, Scott was accepted as an Affiliate Member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), a world leader in sports medicine education, research, communication and fellowship. AOSSM is an international organization of orthopaedic surgeons and other allied healthcare professionals dedicated to sports medicine.

Scott was the recipient of the New Horizon Award given by the Sports Physical Therapy Section in 2006 and the Distinguished Physical Therapy Alumni Award by Grand Valley State University in 2015. Scott is an avid golfer, runner, cyclist and triathlete at various distances, including marathon and 2009 Ironman Florida finishers. He is also the co-founder of the Golf Performance Academy of Southwest Michigan.

Ryan is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Armor Physical Therapy in August 2019. He graduated in 2019 from Grand Valley State University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Ryan did his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology with a Bachelor's of Science in Movement Science in 2015. He also played trumpet in the Michigan Marching Band. Ryan was born and raised in Portage, MI, graduating from Portage Northern High School in 2011, having played golf, basketball, and was a member of the marching band. He developed a passion for Physical Therapy following a few knee surgeries and his love of all things sports. He is an avid golfer, having played nearly every course in the greater Kalamazoo area at least once. Ryan specializes in orthopedics, loves working with athletes, and rehabilitating people back to their passions, no matter what those passions may be. He has also completed advanced training in vestibular therapy, balance and gait training, and running gait analysis. In March 2020, Ryan completed certification in dry needling. Rachel Barrett, PT

PT, DPT

Rachel is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Armor Physical Therapy in August 2021.  She graduated from Grand Valley State University with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2021.   Rachel completed her undergraduate education at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology with a Bachelor of Science in Movement Science in 2018.  She was also part of the Cross Country and Track & Field team at U of M.

Rachel was born and raised in Milford, Michigan, graduating from Milford High School in 2014.  She grew up a fan of sports, playing soccer, basketball, softball, and running cross country and track.  She developed a passion for physical therapy after sustaining a wrist injury, as well as from various sports injuries along the way.

Rachel specializes in orthopedics, and loves working with athletes of all levels, rehabbing people back to the sports and activities they love.  Outside of work, Rachel enjoys hiking, swimming, and, of course, running.

PT, DPT

Lexi Ambs is a physical therapist and joined the Armor Team in January 2022. Lexi is a Portage native, who obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kalamazoo College in 2018 where she majored in Biology and minored in Psychology. Lexi went on to complete her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Western Michigan University in 2021, as a part of their inaugural class. Her practice areas include general orthopedics, sports, post-operative care, and pediatric physical therapy.

Lexi has a special interest in the pediatric population. Having had the opportunity to work in different pediatric settings during school, Lexi developed a passion for working with kids and their families to help them achieve their goals.

While at Kalamazoo College, Lexi was a four-year member of their varsity swim and dive team, and three-year member of their varsity tennis team. In her spare time, Lexi coaches age group swimming for the Greater Kalamazoo Crocs. Outside of work, she enjoys swimming, CrossFit, and spending time with her fiancé and their two dogs.
