Hands-on therapy

At Armor PT in Kalamazoo, we provide some of the best services in Southwest Michigan. Our specialties include orthopedic and sports PT, manual therapy, post-operative rehab, overuse injury treatment, neuromuscular re-training, TRX assisted rehab, McKenzie treatment, dry needling, osteopathic manual therapy, women’s health, and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM).

We also provide specific services for sports performance, such as gait evaluation, lactate threshold testing, sports performance training, biomechanical evaluations, triathlon training, shoe and orthotic recommendations, and healthy spine treatments. Our staff also offers specific programs for athletic achievement, such as our Golf Performance Academy, Just for Kids!, S2 P.E.A.K Training, and Performing Arts & Dance.

What we treat

We provide treatment for several parts of the body, including back pain, sciatica, shoulder pain, elbow/wrist/hand pain, pelvic pain, neck pain, headaches, hip and knee pain, foot and ankle pain, and neurological conditions. We also provide treatment for certain injuries, ailments, and conditions, such as sports injuries, work injuries, motor vehicle injuries, balance and gait dysfunction, arthritis, TMJ, fibromyalgia, torticollis, and women’s health conditions. Additionally, we offer specific rehabilitation and recovery programs, such as pre-surgical rehab, post-surgical rehab, vestibular rehab, and work hardening.

Our staff

Our clinical staff has advanced training in many different areas to handle even the most complicated of musculoskeletal injuries.  We have the only Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy in the Southwest Michigan Area and Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics on our staff. Our staff is comprised of leading PT experts, passionate about helping each and every patient reach their individual goals. Scott Miller is a physical therapist and a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist. A native to the area, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1994 and a Master of Science in 1998 from Grand Valley State University. Scott is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and a Certified Golf Fitness Instructor through the Titleist Performance Institute. He started with Rehab Professionals in 1999 and served as the Sports Medicine Manager/Clinic Director of GRSportsCenter, in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2006, he resigned his position to form a partnership with Agility Health Inc. (formerly Rehab Professionals). In 2007, with his Agility Health partner, Scott opened Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance in Portage, Michigan. With his team growing, the Kalamazoo location was opened in 2010 and the Mattawan location was opened in 2015. Scott is currently the Regional Director of Clinical Operations of Armor Physical Therapy (formerly Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance) for the Portage, Kalamazoo and Mattawan locations.

Scott has been published in several orthopedic textbooks and lectures at the local, regional and national levels on various topics in physical therapy. He has continued to pursue advanced education and training in foot & ankle biomechanics, manual therapy and the McKenzie method for evaluation and treatment of spinal disorders.

Scott is an active member in the American Physical Therapy Association, Sports Physical Therapy Section, and a former Board of Trustee member and secretary for the Institute of Education and Research of the Michigan Physical Therapy Association. He currently is a member of the Western Michigan University DPT Program Clinical Advisory Panel, as well as a member of the Knee, Shoulder and Running Special Interest Groups (SIG) of the Sports Physical Therapy Section. Scott is part of the teaching faculty for Advances in Clinical Education and the North American Sports Medicine Institute. In 2014, Scott was accepted as an Affiliate Member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), a world leader in sports medicine education, research, communication and fellowship. AOSSM is an international organization of orthopaedic surgeons and other allied healthcare professionals dedicated to sports medicine.

Scott was the recipient of the New Horizon Award given by the Sports Physical Therapy Section in 2006 and the Distinguished Physical Therapy Alumni Award by Grand Valley State University in 2015. Scott is an avid golfer, runner, cyclist and triathlete at various distances, including marathon and 2009 Ironman Florida finishers. He is also the co-founder of the Golf Performance Academy of Southwest Michigan.

Megan Philipp is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Armor Physical Therapy in January 2018. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Grand Valley State University in 2010. Megan went on to complete her graduate studies at Belmont University in Nashville, TN graduating in August 2017 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Megan decided to pursue a career in physical therapy while recovering herself from multiple injuries after playing softball, basketball, and volleyball in high school. Megan’s training during her clinical affiliations included two rotations in sports outpatient including one at Armor Physical- Kalamazoo location. Prior to returning to working at Armor, Megan worked in a general outpatient orthopedic clinic in Nashville, TN. Megan has a special interest in gait analysis and lower extremity injuries. In addition, Megan is certified in dry needling and has strong interesting in using this as an adjunct to other treatment methods.

Adam Swain is a physical therapist and joined the staff at Armor Physical Therapy in February 2010. He is a National Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. Adam became a McKenzie Certified Therapist in 2012, as well as Certified in Dry Needling through the Dry Needling Institute in 2017.

Adam graduated in 1986 from Northeastern University, in Boston, MA, with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. He became a Certified Athletic Trainer in 1992, after completing coursework and internship hours at Northwestern University and Purdue University. Adam also received his certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 1992. In 1994, he completed a two year Manual Therapy and Medical Exercise Therapy Residency program with Bjorn Svendsen, Dsc, PT. in Lansing MI.

Adam has lectured on several topics in orthopedic and sports medicine rehabilitation, and has been published as well. He is currently working on certification in the McKenzie method for treatment of spinal and extremity disorders. Adam has extensive training in manual therapy and Osteopathic techniques for management of spine and extremity dysfunctions. He also specializes in ankle/foot biomechanics and was a member of the teaching faculty for the “When the Feet Hit the Ground…” course through the American Physical Rehabilitation Network (APRN).

He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Orthopedic and Sports Sections, and the Michigan Physical Therapy Association. He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Stefany Schiller is a physical therapist who joined the staff at Armor Physical Therapy (formerly Agility Physical Therapy & Sports Performance) in May 2017. She obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Michigan University in 2007, where she majored in Health Fitness and minored in Dance. Stefany went on to complete her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Central Michigan University in 2010.

Stefany is also certified in Rehabilitation Pilates through Polestar Pilates in Miami, Florida. Stefany has pursued advanced training in various manual therapies including the Osteopathic method through Michigan State University.

Prior to starting at Armor, Stefany had practiced in outpatient orthopedics for 7 years in the Lansing and Kalamazoo areas. Most recently, she was the Lead Physical Therapist and Clinic Director, treating a wide variety of orthopedic conditions. Stefany enjoys treating patients of varying ages and conditions with a special interest in the use of Pilates rehabilitation. Stefany currently works at our Kalamazoo clinic. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her young family, the outdoors, doing yoga and Pilates, and taking trips to Lake Michigan.

Kelly Mox is a physical therapist who joined Armor Physical Therapy in 2020. She attended the University of Indianapolis and graduated with her Bachelors of Science in 2009, where she majored in human biology. She then graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2011. Kelly is originally from Indiana, but she has been living and practicing in the Kalamazoo area since 2011.

Kelly specializes in pelvic health physical therapy and has been working with this population since 2012. She became a Board Certified Women’s Health Clinical Specialist (WCS) in 2016 and is one of only a few in the area. She enjoys working with a variety of different pelvic health issues, but has also taken extra continuing education to treat pain during pregnancy as well as facilitate postpartum recovery and return to activity.

In her free time, she enjoys taking walks and playing with her family. Her husband is also a physical therapist, and they have 2 young boys that keep them very busy.

Nate is a Physical Therapist and Battle Creek native who now lives in Portage. He earned his BS in Kinesiology at Michigan State University in 2012, and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Grand Valley State University, graduating in 2015. Since graduating he has lived and worked in Schaumburg, IL and Ashland, OR, and returned to West Michigan in July 2020 to be closer to family.

Nate is very interested in treating the spine, and is near completion on his McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), which is primarily used to treat mechanical pathology of the spine and extremities. He is also interested in treating chronic pain using Therapeutic Neuroscience Education (TNE), and has taken several continuing education courses centered around chronic pain.

In his free time Nate loves spending time with his wife Ali and newborn daughter Georgia, who has stolen his heart and most of his sleep. Hobbies include playing alto saxophone and guitar, and running with his two dogs, Stella and Apollo. He is also a huge Michigan State fan, and has attended 2 Final Fours and a College Football Playoff game watching his Spartans.

Jason is a physical therapist assistant and joined the staff at Armor Physical Therapy in December of 2018. Jason is a native of Tecumseh, Michigan, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education in 2007 from Albion College where he played soccer for 4 years. After graduating from Albion College, he worked as a youth soccer coach for Ann Arbor Arsenal, Vardar, MI Rush and Ann Arbor Tigers until 2017. During his time coaching soccer Jason pursued his Associates of Science in Physical Therapy Assisting from Profession Skills Institute in Toledo, Ohio. After graduation began working for Probility Physical Therapy in Ann Arbor from 2012 to 2018.

Jason has pursued advanced training in extremity, spinal techniques, and vestibular rehab through Great Lakes Seminars. In May of 2018, Jason moved to Kalamazoo to open the US Cryotherapy Center with his business partner Dr. Blake Upston. He continues to operate that business in addition to being part of the Armor PT team at the Kalamazoo location.

Jason now enjoys spending his time with his wife and daughter Isabelle, running, and playing golf in his free time.
